For those who have no idea what an API means Application Programming Interface. It is a way for programmers to use some of the services of a website or web service. For instance, the Facebook login you see on websites, works using an API. Or facebook app, or displaying your tweets on your blog, and so on.
Now most popular websites that offer widely used services have API’s, making it possible for anyone who knows how, to integrate and/or use their services seamlessly. This is common, even with websites like WordPress, Tripadvisor, and so on.
Even as API’s are common among websites and web services, the same is not exactly true for electronic devices. As some already know, there are certain phones that cannot connect with other brands except theirs. For instance, a Samsung phone can pair (Bluetooth) with another Samsung phone, but not with a Sony Ericsson or Nokia.
I wish electronic devices had API’s, allowing other hardware manufacturers (as well as programmers) to integrate and communicate freely with all devices (or at least, the common devices).
With hardware API’s, developers like myself can build interfaces to make 2 different devices communicate with one another, without having to “hack” either of them. I can link my alarm system with my camera system, or my telephone system with my motion detection system, and so on.
There is the need for hardware API’s!!!
