BitTorrent plans to “decentralize” the internet with its new web browser.
Project Maelstrom begins to answer that question with our first public release of a web browser that can power a new way for web content to be published, accessed and consumed. Truly an Internet powered by people, one that lowers barriers and denies gatekeepers their grip on our future.
First, they launched BitTorrent Sync, BitTorrent‘s solution to cloud sharing (like DropBox) and now a web browser. They intend to solve some of the most irritating problems of the internet in today’s world with Project Maelstrom, like internet neutrality, or an open internet or ensuring that the private data of users are not misused by large corporations and organizations.
At the moment, Maelstrom is on Alpha testing and open to a few invite only testers. For more details, visit the official blog post here: http://blog.bittorrent.com/2014/12/10/project-maelstrom-the-internet-we-build-next/
